Free WP Themes is simply a curated index of some of the best WordPress theme designers we’ve come across. We figure most people have better things to do than look at the eleventy quadrillion free WordPress themes out there (some of which are, well, pretty damn terrible) in an effort to find just one that works for them, so we take the proverbial bullet and do the digging for you. Yes, we’re that nice. Yes, you’re welcome.

Oh, and since we’re just an index we don’t actually host downloads or demos of the themes we showcase, but we do provide convenient links to demo or download each one over at their respective designers’ websites.

What exactly is WordPress and why’s it so freaking cool?

WordPress (sometimes shortened to WP) is an amazingly cool blog engine and content management system. It lets you build and manage a website or blog with a beautiful and simple to use interface (called the Dashboard) and has a library of thousands of slick plugins that make it do practically anything you can imagine.

In other words, it’s probably the best and simplest way to run a website or blog these days. And because it’s an open source project, it’s absolutely and totally free! That’s right — all that amazingness for exactly $0.00 (€0.00, £0.00, ¥0.00 — you get the picture).

What’s a WordPress theme and what does it do?

This is achieved through the use of WordPress themes, which are neat little self-contained packages that, when plugged into WordPress, tells it how your website or blog should look.

Now since WordPress is so insanely cool and popular, there are literally thousands and thousands of these neat little packages to choose from, which brings us to …

So how do I install a WordPress theme?

Short answer: with little to no effort. “Long” answer:

  1. Sign in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click Appearance in the sidebar.
  3. Click Themes.
  4. Click the Install Themes tab.
  5. Click Upload.
  6. Pick the theme .zip file and click Install Now.
  7. Click Activate.

And voila — you’re done and ready to rock out with your new theme.

I need help with a theme! Can you help me?

Sadly no! Since we’re just an index we didn’t actually create any of the themes we showcase, which means we can’t really help you with stuff specific to a particular one. That said though, you can always get in touch with the designer of the theme you’re using by hitting up their website.
